Riversimple has had a busy year so far, what with the launch of its hydrogen-powered Rasa city vehicle, displaying it off in the London Motor Show and unveiling two new concept designs. Now, the Welsh carmaker has announced the very first UK trial of its innovative automobiles.

The trial, run in partnership with Monmouthshire County Council in southeast Wales, will probably be carried out more than the course of 12 months. The Rasa itself will probably be used, with 20 brand-new models to be driven by 60-80 Monmouthshire residents more than the course of 3 or six-month contracts.
The Rasa will not be available to buy when it's launched in 2018, but rather clients will be in a position to appreciate the car by paying a month-to-month fee that covers fuel, upkeep, repairs and insurance coverage. This type of plan, says Riversimple, will get rid of built-in car obsolescence and make sustainability a competitive benefit, rather than a cost.
The carmaker believes the Rasa will be the most effective road-going vehicle in the world. It describes the short distance between towns in Monmouthshire as "ideal" for testing the Rasa, that is designed for nearby non-motorway use and features a range of 300 mi (483 km).
Riversimple says the trial will be the begin of its plans to make hydrogen infrastructure across the UK to help encourage the roll-out of hydrogen vehicles exactly where refueling stations are constructed. As part of the trial, a self-service, mobile refueling point is planned for the town of Abergavenny or Monmouth. The firm also says it'll cover the running costs from the cars during the trial, will provide customer relations to participants, and will also develop a temporary "experience center."
The trial is because of begin in early 2017, with the initial commercially available Riversimple cars - just like the Rasa - anticipated in 2018, and also the improvement of its concept cars following thereafter. More than the following 20 years it hopes to build a "distributed network of manufacturing plants" that will produce jobs and help regenerate communities.
The video below explains Riversimple's unconventional approach towards the auto business.
