Motorcycles News : 2017 Chevrolet Sonic Redesign, Release, Changes
During the 2016 New York Auto show, Chevrolet introduced the 2017 Sonic. The automaker claims that the new Sonic offers a more sporty and expressive take to the small car segment.

The car comes with new updates which include LED lighting on the exterior and new technologies such as MyLink which integrates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in its cabin. The refreshment adds to the Sonic’s character as a fun, efficient and affordable small hauler.

Now, with the 2017 Sonic, Chevrolet is revisiting and refreshing the compact car, with some changes to this small car’s front and rear styling, a better safety set, and some new features throughout. In light of that, the 2017 Chevrolet Sonic for the U.S. is now a lot closer to the front-end look of the international version, which is still called the Aveo in many other markets. It continues to be available as either a five-door hatchback or four-door sedan.

Chevrolet hopes to capture the attention of younger buyers with the Sonic.  Chevrolet has established that 20% of the vehicle’s buyers are below 35 years and the automaker believes the upcoming model will do even better among this age group of buyers. Just like the outgoing model, the 2017 Chevrolet Sonic will be offered both in sedan and hatchback bodies.

2017 Chevrolet Sonic Price

Pricing for the new 2017 Chevrolet Sonic has been set at $15,000 – $19,000 based on current exchange rates. If there are changes on the 2017 Chevrolet Sonic we will notify you as soon as possible, so keep follow our blog.
2017 Chevrolet Sonic Release Date

Revealed at the 2010 Paris Motor Show, the current Chevrolet Sonic is a little long in the tooth compared to its main competitors, but that didn’t stop it from being a hot seller that brings new, younger customers to the brand in the U.S. But, while Chevrolet isn’t planning on ditching the already six-year-old Gamma II platform, the Sonic received a significant makeover ahead of the 2016 New York Auto Show.

2017 Chevrolet Sonic Changes

Safety features in the 2017 Sonic are quite robust, with 10 standard airbags. A rearview camera system is now standard across the model line, while parking assist is newly available, as are forward collision alert and lane departure warning, two active-safety features that may help you keep away from trouble. The Sonic’s body structure is likely to carry over with no major changes, and that’s a good thing; up until now this model has earned excellent five stars in federal crash tests, as well as top “Good” ratings from the IIHS, including in that agency’s tough (and critical) small overlap frontal test. We expect with the inclusion of those active-safety systems that it will earn a Top Safety Pick+ rating.

The 2017 Sonic is miles ahead in terms of exterior design. Solid improvements were operated inside as well, where a new infotainment system and the latest connectivity technologies are available. Chevy did ignore the drivetrain department, but the standard 1.8-liter and the optional 1.4-liter turbo provide just enough power for the small compact, along with excellent fuel economy. The hatch also comes with a couple of segment-first features, but we’ll talk about that in detail in the review below.

2017 Chevrolet Sonic Specs

The interior designers of the 2017 Chevrolet Sonic have designed a thoughtful interior which is focused on offering comfort, convenience and the trappings that come with new technology.  To add to the current design which is already well defined is a new detailed gauge cluster with an analog speedometer.

New for 2017 is a power driver’s seat making the Sonic the first model in this segment to offer this feature.  Other features include keyless entry and ignition, heated seats and a heated steering wheel. The seats are upholstered in a quality cloth. The exclusive RS package adds RS-logo on the floor mats, red cloth upholstery, piano black décor and an RS-badged flat-bottomed steering wheel.

Chevy points to the Sonic’s changes as being right in line with those given to other global Chevrolet compact vehicles, including the Cruze, Bolt EV, and refreshed 2017 Trax. That includes what the automaker describes as a more expressive look, with a redesigned hood, a new rear fascia, projector-beam headlamps, and LED daytime running lamps. Orange Burst Metallic, Brimstone, Cajun Red Tintcoat, and Arctic Blue Metallic are four new colors introduced for 2017, and wheel designs have been refreshed (still 15-, 16-, and 17-inch).
The Sonic’s shell is entirely new for 2017 and uses the same styling cues seen on the recently unveiled Cruze, Trax, and Bolt EV. There’s a new front hood and a reshaped nose with a slimmer, and more stylish upper grille that houses the “bowtie” emblem. The new grille is flanked by redesigned headlamps that no longer feature round lights. Below, there’s a much larger grille with chrome trim and vertical slots for the new daytime running lights (available with LED technology).

Another new feature on the 2017 Chevy Sonic is a 7.0-inch diagonal infotainment system. The system supports up-to-date technologies such as Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and 4GLTE which comes with a Wi-Fi hotspot. The Wi-Fi hotspot allows connection of up to 7 devices like smartphones, tablets or laptops.

The Chevrolet Sonic 2017 will feature a host of upgraded safety features such as Lane Departure warning, Forward Collision Alert, Stabilitrak electronic stability control and antilock brakes among others. For 2017, the model will also feature Rear Park Assist and a rearview camera as standard in all trims. The vehicle also features 10 standard airbags.

As mentioned above, the new Chevrolet Sonic has a new stance which is more expressive. The vehicle’s exterior design falls in line with other Chevrolet models such as the Trax, Cruze and Bolt EV. The front features a new hood, a revamped grille and projector-beam headlights. The front also features LED DRLs.

The rear, on the other hand, has also been refreshed and sports a redesigned bumper and revised taillights. On the sides, the Sonic still features its unique “wheels-at-the-corners stance” which when coupled with the upgrades make it look sportier. The vehicle rides on new 15-, 16-and 17-inch wheels. Four new exterior colors have also been introduced; they are Arctic Blue Metallic, Orange Burst Metallic, Cajum Red Tintcoat and Brimstone.

2017 Chevrolet Sonic Engine

Both the sedan and the hatchback are powered by a 1.8 L 4-cylinder Ecotec engine or an Ecotec 1.4 L turbocharged mill. Both engines produce 138 hp. However, the turbocharged engine produces 148 lb-ft of torque compared to 125 lb-ft of torque produced by the 1.8 L engine.

Powertrains for the 2017 Chevrolet Sonic essentially carry over from last year. Base Sonic models will be powered by a 1.8-liter inline-4, while an optional 1.4-liter turbocharged inline-4 gives better acceleration and higher EPA fuel economy ratings. We’ve found Sonic models with this 1.4-liter engine to be smoother, quicker-responding, and simply more fun to drive. Outgoing versions of this front-wheel-drive small car can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic, and we expect this to be the same for 2017.

There are no official EPA ratings as of this writing but since there are no significant changes on the drive-trains; we expect the engine to retain the 2016 model’s ratings. The 1.8 L engine currently returns a combined fuel efficiency of 30 mpg while the turbocharger is more frugal at a 33 mpg on combined drives.
